Even though it is not officially spring, it is time to start planning your outdoor living spaces. We actually started a project in December that includes a patio renovation, because our client wants to enjoy the mild Texas weather outside (at least until July arrives).
Why start so early? Because planning and purchasing can easily take a few months. But you can definitely get lots of use if you plan it properly. This is a project we installed two years ago and the clients have enjoyed many pool parties, dinner, and fun times back here.
We had the deck and pergola built, installed some ceiling fans and lighting, and furnished it as if it was an indoor living area. With the exception of the rug and fabric selections…of course, those needed to be outdoor selections. This patio features mostly Sunbrella fabrics, which are fantastic, but we have since discovered the brand Perennials and love their fresh patterns! Both of these fabrics are what you call “solution dyed” where the actual strands are dyed all the way through so you can literally bleach them without removing the color (think of the difference between the coloring of a carrot vs. a radish – get it?).
And check out two of my newest favorite fabric patterns from Perennials’ new Porter Teleo collection:
Aren’t those fabrics just delicious? And yes, they are totally reversible. You should also note that you don’t need to use these fabrics outside only. They are comfortable enough to use inside – and are virtually indestructible with kids and dogs. Yes. You read that correctly.
So, let’s get back to our quick visit outside:
Not all areas need to be shaded, but a large crank-lift offset umbrella comes in handy around the pool. You can adjust as needed.
You should have a variety of seating options for you and your guests. In this particular patio, we had a sofa, swivel chairs, and the dining table. And not pictured, on the other side of the house, is a love seat, more swivel chairs, and a fire pit that will also turn over and hold your cold beverages…all surrounded by some gorgeous outdoor curtains. Check out THIS blog post for ideas on curtains and other patio options to use year round.
