The Story

When a new build is constructed in a historical district, it can be overwhelming to adjust the interior of the home to blend with the surrounding exterior. However with efficient planning, keen attention to detail, and persistence - the outcome can be worthwhile, and ML Interiors Group aimed to accomplish just that! Consistent communication and patience were the forerunners of this design, as balancing the construction schedule with installation and implementation was a continuous need to make this home turn-key ready.

Formal Living Room

Some particulars that were incorporated into the design were the client’s fondness for two beautiful bold prints from London, as well as various family heirlooms and unique pieces to be implemented seamlessly into the designed spaces. Thoughtfully used as curtains in the formal living space, the brushed floral pattern inspired the pastel color palette seen throughout the room - giving a delicate and sophisticated impression.

Study

To create a blend of masculinity and femininity, the custom built-ins were given a dark coat of paint to bring a bit of heaviness to the room - complete with plenty of storage in the lower cabinets for sports equipment and memorabilia, while the upper shelves display more decorative items (including hand-drawn illustrations of their beloved bulldogs!). The shape of the desk and office chair allude to the softer elements in the room, while more subtle details like the pom pom fringe and vertical stripe carry a contrast.

Kitchen

With a great foundation to start, this kitchen required a few selective details to help tie the room in with the design seen in the rest of the home. The white monochromatic theme was further emphasized by adding porcelain jelly jars equally across the top cabinetry - which then set the stage for the pops of color seen in the breakfast table and kitchen island. Traditional marble countertops create the perfect backdrop for the star of the show - geometric black and white zig-zag counter stools, selected to somewhat mimic the zebra-patterned chairs in the formal dining room.

Family Room

As proud Baylor University graduates, these homeowners wanted to honor their roots in seamless ways throughout the interior design. This is most evident in the family room design, where a map of Waco brings visual interest amongst a room filled with vibrant color and bold pattern. Performance fabrics were used on all of the furniture pieces, creating assurance that these will be able to withstand for years to come. With a mix of earthy and eclectic vibes, this space provides ample seating options and plenty of personality.

Master Bedroom and Bathroom

As previously mentioned, the second of the bold prints was utilized in the custom headboard of the master bedroom - bringing additional inspiration into this space. To ensure that the colors in the room did not compete with each other, a grasscloth wallpaper was implemented to create balance. The bonus seating area doubled the room’s use and allowed more neutrals to come into play against the bold colors within the space.
Limited accessories, performance fabrics, and mixed metals (such as brushed nickel, and antique brass) integrated within the design demonstrate a unique blend of styles that seems to create a whimsical harmony - reflective of the homeowner’s quirky style.

Media Room and Bar

With a specific inclination towards the gentlemen of the home, darker elements were employed to ground the space and create the perfect atmosphere for family gatherings and epic movie nights (with blackout curtains selected for just that purpose!). A custom leather sofa and dynamic club swivel chairs invite comfort, while the antelope-patterned rug and minimalist accessories promote appeal in simplicity. The bar counter stools and thoughtful accessories help tie this area in with the rest of the interior design.

Powder Bathroom

A standout design amongst powder bathrooms - gold floral-patterned wallpaper nods to the favored prints used in the previous designs, while the stellar light fixture, dark wall paneling, and glass doorknobs elevate this space to a whole new level of sophistication.

The Joyful Result

The love of color and history made this design distinctive in its individuality, allowing identity to permeate throughout while also making the home feel more personal and “lived in.” Size and scale were also considered when it came to balancing the different spaces, employing the color black to appear subtly to provide contrast to the more standout pieces. With a new space that can grow with the family, the result of this design is a home that is elegant enough for fine dining and entertainment, yet also comfortable enough for “Football Saturdays” and furry friends.
