We just met with a prospective client who stated he wanted to hire us to make his new house look like a model home. Coincidentally, we just completed furnishing three model homes for a builder in Tarrant County, so we have model homes on our mind right now. There are a few key details that are easy to implement for you to make your house look more like a model home.
Here are our Top 3 that we implemented recently:
1. Set Your Table. Keeping your table set can not only create a finished look, but it is a win, win because you are always ready for guests to arrive. We know that this may seem unnecessary but it truly does finish out any dining room and can also simplify most center pieces which tend to become an eye sore quickly. Remember, when decorating to make your home look like a model home, less is more.

2.Match your fabrics. You can see in the image below, we used the same fabric on the pillows as we did on the back of the dining chairs. In this case, we actually had retail dining chairs that we just had re-upholstered on the back. You don’t have to go fully custom to make your home look fancy. Another option would be to add the same fabric to your window treatments instead of (or in addition to) either the chairs or pillows.

3. Don’t overlook the small spaces. Bringing decor into your laundry room and / or closets adds a designer feel. You can use art and decorative baskets to add beauty to these highly functional spaces. This is also applicable in your pantry, no matter what size.

4.Use regular curtains as shower curtains. And if you’re feeling bold, use two panels as we did in the guest bathroom below. Hang them as high as you can while allowing an inch or two gap where they meet the floor. Oh, and if this is a bathroom that gets used, be sure you also install a shower curtain liner so you don’t have a puddle outside the tub every time you bathe.
