A well designed bedroom is important. This is the room you start and end each day in – so finding bedroom colors you will love is a key foundation to the room overall.
We begin the process of designing & decorating our clients’ bedrooms by learning more about the places they love. Whether it be vacation destinations, favorite hotels, or even movie sets. The vast majority of our rooms begin with a very neutral base, and then colors are layered in.
I love this gray room with pops of happy yellow. This client lives on a lake, so the yellow is reflective of the sunshine that flows through the windows so often. The wall color is Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray. You have to be careful with gray paints and getting the right shade, we recommend trying a few before covering the wall. You don’t want to feel like you’re living in a cinder block prison!
This is a DesignBox Delivered service we created last year for a client. We specified various shades of blue within the room to keep it interesting and give it some depth. The client wanted it to feel like a spa, so we suggested Sherwin Williams Quietude to the walls – in a 50% strength. We used wood and leather furnishings & accents to keep the room grounded.
The foundation of the room below is a 25% strength Perfect Greige paint – also by Sherwin Williams (more about this color HERE). Using their existing bed and adding layers of white bedding, white painted nightstands, and ivory & white lamps, and accented with green & blue. Again, a bit of a spa like color palette, wouldn’t you agree?
And finally, this more masculine vibe. The carpet was in good shape and not needing to be replaced, so we found a paint to coordinate (not match). Sherwin Williams’ Truly Taupe paint was applied to the walls and ceiling, with Alabaster White on the trim. We hung steel blue linen curtain panels, added white & blue bedding from West Elm to the wooden bed, and then really created focus on the wood tones by hanging unique wooden panels behind the nightstands.
Do you see how beginning with a neutral base of gray, beige, and whites can provide a great foundation for the colors in your bedroom? This foundation will also allow you to change out the accent colors you select without having to re-decorate your whole bedroom!
And while it may seem I offered a commercial for Sherwin Williams, we did not receive any renumeration for the post. I just love me some Sherwin Williams paint colors!
