I’m getting close to completion with our new office / studio space and I’m giddy with excitement. But, there have been a few unforeseen details with this build out, as it is my first “retail” space to design. If you recall, selecting a contractor was difficult (catch up HERE) but they have been very helpful in sourcing items that are necessary but not standard issue (imagine handicap toilet bars – not so sexy).
The budget has been relatively well managed, and I have not had to cut out too many items that I had my heart set on. Thankfully, some of the things I thought I wanted, I decided against for practical or aesthetic purposes rather than moola. One detail, however, that I was unable to justify the expenditure on was the backsplash in our kitchen. Sigh. How I love Artistic Tile. I was dreaming of their Danse Lucindo tile as seen here:
And here is a close up:
Sigh. Isn’t it just gorgeous? It is a gray-green glass tile with ribbons of Calacatta Gold marble woven through it. It does come in other color pairings, but I saw this and literally drooled.
Unfortunately, as we got closer to making the purchase for countertops + backsplash, the checkbook was feeling more than a little tight. Although I wanted this statement backsplash, I had chosen some other items that are both glamorous AND functional that were necessary so I had to “value engineer” my selections. That meant out with the Danse Lucindo and in with my Dream Cloud glass tiles. It is difficult to see the detail and texture, but it’s a dreamy white 4 x 8 glass tile.
Okay okay. I know these glass tiles are not nearly as amazing as the original selection, but when you’re renovating – in any capacity – you have to weigh your options and prioritize. I’d much rather have custom built ins and custom furniture now, because I can change the backsplash later.
So in the meantime, I’m painting my cabinets the gray green of the Danse Lucindo, and have a lovely quartz countertop in dark gray. I hope to have those installed Saturday, so I’ll have pics up soon. In the meantime, I’ll leave you with a little tease. These custom designed screens were delivered and are smoking hot. Two. To be hanging from the ceiling. Can’t wait!
So that’s an update for now. We’re moving quickly so I’ll have more posts sooner than later, I’m sure! Keep checking in.
XOXO
