Have you ever seen a long, dark hallway in a house that just needed some a seriouos hallway built in cabinet makeover? We recently completed a project for a client who had just that, specifically a dark and (shall we say it?) ugly cabinet at the end of said hallway.
Here is the the “before” picture of the end of the hallway. (And if you peek through the doorway to the right of the eyesore, you’ll see a bedroom with yellow walls. Well, those walls were something else as well and you can see that makeover HERE.)
This cabinet was a behemoth of a dark pit that had very little / no function and definitely no aesthetic appeal.
And yes, look closely, that is wire mesh. It might as well be chicken coop wire as far as I’m concerned.
So our client was very much pregnant as we tackled our project, so together we all decided that a full blown tear out and construction wasn’t really desired. So we got to work with what we had. First we ripped off the doors and took out the fixed shelves, removed the nasty yellow linoleum (or was it marble? Either way, it had to GO), and put a coat of the paint on it to lighten it up.
We used same color paint we finished out the hallway in (Benjamin Moore’s Light Pewter, with a low VOC for the little momma to be) only in a Satin finish, while the walls were matte. We added glass shelving and mirrored the front panels (to help with the already dark hallway syndrome).
So what isn’t to love about Carrera Marble? We topped the counter with the gorgeous, gray veined stone, added some glass pulls on the drawers – and transformed the dark & dingy bohemoth of an eyesore to something pretty and even functional (they keep their family’s photos in the bottom).
I wish I would have gotten a professional photo of this when it was fully finished & styled. But I didn’t. But I know better now. But doesn’t this transformation still look ridiculously awesome? Seriously, scroll up and look at the “before”. And don’t forget to click through to see what we did to the Master Bedroom HERE.
