Whilst in the process of moving office (see our weekly “New Office Journal” for some behind-the-scenes scoop), I was inspired to write a post on creating the same office nirvana at home. Just because you work at home, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a lean, mean, and (dare I say) PRODUCTIVE work space.
Home offices are becoming more and more common, and it can be difficult to leave the “home” out of your work space. Office organization may not sound like a scintillating topic, but a lack of it can be detrimental to your work life and sanity.
If that sounds all too familiar, let’s talk makeover! Here are some interior design tips for making over your home office:
The above images features a fun design project I did for a young bachelor who wanted his space to reflect his casual, but styled personality. These monster built in shelves – with library ladder – let him show off his cool collection while keeping the space clutter free.
Find a Creative Storage Solution
No matter what size your space, storage is key. If modern wall shelving isn’t your style, why not try a new cabinet or chest of drawers to keep the clutter out of sight? We transformed the office above from cluttered to chic with the use of a beautiful chest of drawers and a sleek desk. Replacing the oversized piece of furniture and outdated desk gave the room a more open feel. The best part is that even with a bigger desk, there is more usable space in the office now. Win, win.
Keep it Functionally Glamorous
Office furniture should not only be beautiful, but functional. Make sure it fits in with the room and your business needs. Do you have enough storage space for that sleek, modern desk? Or should you be looking for something with more storage options? Also pay attention to size. There is nothing more frustrating and intrusive than an oversized desk. A great designer (hint hint) will work with you to find a solutions that works for your lifestyle, space and personality.
