How to select the right toilet. Sexy, huh? Yes, interior design is not just about selecting pretty fabrics and fluffing pillows, we get into the details of your home. It’s all about living life luxuriously, and the toilet may be where you begin and end your day, so making sure you have the right one really is key. Yah, not the most comfortable conversation, but bear with me and read on.
When shopping with clients, we share that a toilet has two key components in selection:
The right shape and height.
You can choose between either a round bowl shape or an elongated bowl shape. The elongated provides a longer, more comfortable seat, but takes up more space, so a round bowl is a great solution for smaller powder rooms or older properties.
The size difference is generally a couple of inches, with the elongated bowl shape being roughly 18″ – 19″ and the round bowl shape roughly between 16″ – 17″.
You will also want to consider the flush type. How the toilet works is just as important as how it looks.
The two primary flush types are “Low Flow” and “Dual Flush”.
The dual flush option is just what it sounds like: two flush options. The lower flow option is suitable for fluid waste and a higher flow for solids. (Sorry Mom! I’m sure she never imagined I’d be talking about poo on the internet when she saw me off to college.)
Finally, another consideration should be to whether you prefer a single or two piece toilet. The single piece toilets are usually a little more contemporary and sleeker in style and (in my opinion) are a little easier to clean because there are no gaps between the tank and the bowl. I don’t believe performance is better with either style, it’s just a matter of personal preference.
