Setting the table at the last minute for your Thanksgiving celebration? Don’t worry! We have some ideas to help you create a beautiful table scape that is unique to this year’s celebration.
Whether you use the same china that has been in your family for generations, or you just found something new for this year, the Thanksgiving table is the focal point of the holiday. To make this year stand out from the rest when it comes to the table decor, here are ways to update your look; and most of the stuff you can find around the house!
1. Use placemats instead of a tablecloth.

I’ve personally never been a big fan of tablecloths. What exactly is hiding under there, right? I am grateful that I now have a big, beautiful dining room table that I couldn’t imagine covering up! (But in reality, there ARE some tables I have owned in my youth that may have needed a table cloth.)
2. Add a Pop of Navy

Yes, Navy. It’s the new neutral and will give your table a more current look. Navy looks amazing with autumn colors, especially oranges and golds. Why not give it a try?
3. Mix your dishes

We have 4 sets of dishes between us at this house. Luckily, I have found ways to mix and match them. Believe it or not, none of them are white! The trick is to be consistent so it doesn’t look like the mismatch rack at a thrift shop. Keep to the same sets- mix and match the dinner plates and the bread plates from the same sets and alternate around the table.
4. Mix placemats.
Yes. More than one. It’s all about layering to add visual interest to your table. If you are serving buffet style, just remove the dinner plate and put at the front of the buffet line. Your table still looks complete even with the center of attention missing. You can even mix shapes, although this year I am using all round.
5. Accent with fruit and other edibles.
As you make a mad dash to the grocery store, pick up some fruits and veggies to use as table decoration. It’s a great way to add a pop of color and can be repurposed (aka “you can eat it”) later.
It’s never too late to create a beautiful table for Thanksgiving- just shop your own house and add unique items to your decor. Remember, food and family are the stars of the day; but both deserve a beautiful backdrop for the festivities. Happy Thanksgiving!

PS! You can also find table decor in your own backyard! Grab some leaves and scatter about your table.
