Whether it’s working in cubicle h-e-double-toothpicks, or working for someone you despise – it can be extremely daunting on your mental and physical health. You spend your entire week – starting today – looking forwarding to the weekend, and when that weekend arrives, you spend it dreading Monday. Life’s too short for the negativity and stress.
I was once in the same position, working in corporate cube world as an Area Director for a recruiting firm. I LOVED the people, but didn’t care much for the actual job. I kept positive, re-evaluated my options, and made the plunge into my true passion: helping others create the interiors they dream of living in.
I realize that this dream may not be achievable for everyone. Starting a new business is a huge risk and undertaking, but everyone CAN choose their attitude. Be the change you want to see. You are in full control of your happiness, it’s about choosing to believe it. This is why we work hard at having FUN. A little bit of fun, a good laugh and a positive attitude can change your life.
Try it for a week. Whenever you hear yourself complaining or being negative, re-evaluate your stress (is it really thaaaaat bad?), change your perspective, and smile! If you keep telling yourself you are stressed and unhappy, you will be. Make a list of things you enjoy, things that ignite your passion, then find interesting ways to incorporate those into your everyday life. Sometimes just being GRATEFUL for the blessings you do have can change your perspective. What if you did NOT have that job you’re not so fond of? What if you did not have a job at all? Life would be quite a bit different.
And when in doubt…
Smile to make yourself happy, instead of waiting for happiness to make you smile.
