Well hello there! It’s been a few weeks since I have posted a Monday Motivation. I hope you enjoyed the holiday season. I absolutely did – which is part of the reason why I have been out of pocket the past few Mondays. It was a BUSY season between work and family and quite frankly, I was just a little too worn out to feel or express the motivation I enjoy sharing on Mondays. Gotta be true to yourself, right? Plus, I think you would have noticed the lack of authenticity the posts would have had.
But I’m back with more LIVING BY DESIGN and the MONDAY MOTIVATION we can all use. Are you ready?
It’s the first of the year. Many of us make New Year’s Resolutions. Whether you personally do or not, I’m sure you have some goals & dreams. My family started a tradition a few years ago where we write down a “word of the year”, 3 goals and 3 dreams on a piece of paper, put it in an envelope, seal it and pack it up with the Christmas wrapping paper. Then the following year, after Christmas, we open the envelopes and share the details with each other. It’s a ton of fun and inspiring – especially when we see each other making progress or accomplishing these goals. It’s also funny when you read something you wrote and wonder “what was I thinking?”!!
I have learned, and am trying to pass on to my favorite son, that it is okay NOT to accomplish everything you set out to. But it is NOT okay to not try because you’re afraid of failing.
I’ve gotta tell you that this new office we are opening up has me scared to pieces. It’s something I haven’t seen before – a retail storefront design studio that doesn’t sell anything retail. (Read HERE for some of the details.) Yep. And if I wasn’t sure my parents were going to be reading this post, I’d probably say it scares the something-not-proper out of me. Yep. You fill in that blank and that is how scary this move is.
I think one of the reasons many people don’t pursue their dreams or goals is because they are worried about what other people will think if they don’t succeed. I say who cares what other people think? So long as you’re not hurting anybody, do what you need to do to move towards the line of success. It doesn’t have to be all at once. It doesn’t have to be announced to the world in advance. It just has to be a goal or a dream that means something to YOU.
And sometimes the path is not a straight path to your dreams or goals. In fact, it rarely is. Whether you’re dreaming of running a marathon or starting your own business or learning a foreign language or whatever your aspirations are. You have to start somewhere – and keep perspective of the big picture as you keep inching your way forward.
And have fun. Laughing at the confusion is something we do at ML Interiors Group regularly. Whether it is a design that goes a little wonky for reasons we can’t control and have to recover, or because things are moving so quickly that we are literally juggling and tap dancing at the same time. But we’re not curing cancer and nobody is going to die on the operating table on our watch, so keeping perspective is key.
So do you have a word for the year? I do. I actually selected it before 2014 was over and included it in my December 8 Monday Motivation Post. My word is ABUNDANCE. In all areas of my life.
Do you have dreams or goals? Write them down. Put together some ideas on how to achieve them. Start with baby steps. It will feel good to take action. Then keep moving towards the dream and don’t let anybody deter you with their negativity. You can make progress. You just have to try. Wouldn’t you hate to find out that you COULD have IF you had just tried?
Let me know in the comments what you’re dreaming of, if you want to write it there. Or how you’re doing with a goal or dream you’ve been pursuing for a while now. I’m all ears and cheers for you!
