Ever have one of those situations where you were disappointed and you left feeling frustrated? Or angry? Or empty? Maybe it’s not a situation, but a relationship.
Much of what can change you, is managing your expectations. Think about it. You’re going to Thanksgiving dinner, EXPECTING your family to be a certain way…and they are not. You’re disappointed, right? But if you go to Thanksgiving dinner APPRECIATING that you have a family and a warm place to celebrate the holiday, and yummy food…well, the whole experience can shift.
So if you run up against a crummy situation. Or a person who has let you down. Or a bad day, then LOOK for the good in it. You might have to dig for that something…but it will be there. Re-frame the perspective and you might find yourself in a more positive mood.
Life isn’t always going to be sunny and cheerful, but you do have a choice as to how you handle it. Do you wallow in your disappointment (because your expectations were not met)? Or do you acknowledge that you have the power to find and appreciate the little nugget of beauty? It might sound kind of naive or like Pollyanna, but I challenge you to try it. Dig for the beauty and appreciate something in every situation – especially the ones where you find yourself disapointed. Change your perspective and you can change your whole world.
Let me know how it goes!
