The Story

Always planning ahead, this homeowner needed an upgraded space not only for the present - but for the future as well. As some desire a “forever-home”, others find joy in the journey - and with the understanding that life has a funny way of changing sometimes, so too, can our home base. This homeowner knew that practical selections were a must for this kitchen renovation, and they were certain that the team at ML Interiors Group were the people to make it happen.

Kitchen

Custom cabinetry and custom twin pantries flanking the built-in fridge and freezer (not shown) were added to create cohesion and provide ample storage where there previously was none. Plain white quartz countertops and backsplash contrast beautifully with the dark angularity of the industrial lighting and Brizo faucet, creating a sense of balance and lightness in what previously felt like a heavy kitchen.

The original island and peninsula were removed to elongate the quartzite island with a custom apron front, allocating plenty of workspace for meal preparation. With hidden storage on one side of the island and under-the-counter refrigeration on the other - any 5 year old can operate in this kitchen with confidence, building self-sufficiency through accessibility. Hidden structural support gives the island the illusion that it is cantilevered with the brass-inlaid table, sustaining visual interest while lengthening the space. This spacious illusion is further emphasized by the open white oak shelving, the most impactful of which extends seamlessly across the floor-to-ceiling windows - again enlarging the appearance of the space and creating continuity.

Neutral accessories adorn the organic warmth of the white-oak wooden shelving and reflect the various natural tones found in the maple wood flooring (specially chosen for the dark and light striations found within the wood). Greenery finds its place among the shelves as well, complimenting the lush creekside flora visible through the magnificent windows. A custom vent hood with rough texture contrasts the smooth streamline design style and accents the new stainless steel appliances, acting as the final touches to complete this design.

The Joyful Result

By changing the layout of the kitchen and eat-in table in its entirety, this space now acts as the heart of the home. As this house is very contemporary and modern overall, the main goal was to create unity through the decades - which ML Interiors Group was able to achieve through careful planning and collaboration. Perfect for entertaining and family gatherings, this kitchen promotes function and ease while giving the homeowner a sense of warmth that can be shared with all who enter.
