A busy family of international travelers, with a US home base in Texas, needed an update on this 80’s Plano home, specifically, the kitchen. Nothing says “1983” like a peach-colored kitchen! Inspired by European contemporary lines of a modern Italian style, the new kitchen functions as good as it looks.

Kitchen with Command Center & Living Room
New hardwood flooring throughout the main floor of the home was the perfect canvas for a sleek white kitchen. Accents of wood, stained “Jacobean” warms the kitchen without conflicting with the all white kitchen cabinetry, polished quartz countertops and glossy white porcelain slabs in the perimeter of the kitchen. The island is the star of the space with simple absolute black granite, and a custom wood bar that wraps around the front and sides. For a family that’s tall in stature, the island sits several inches above the standard 36” height; the Cantoni leather adjustable stools fit any size visitor or family member. The command center is tucked near the back patio, so mom can keep the family organized and still participate in family movie night. A special tribute to their home continent of Africa is represented in a custom succulent arrangement.
Keeping an organic vibe in contrast to the modern kitchen was accomplished with textiles. After reimagining the fireplace by tiling the entire wall, the focus of the space is now centered on the room. Neutral colors in the fabric and area rug, were the perfect backdrop to showcase curated fabrics from Senegal.
