Window treatments are the finishing touch designers give to a space, adding warmth and elegance. Sometimes, solid panels that mimic the main color palette in the space soften the straight lines of windows and can make a room feel cozy and enveloping. However, they don’t provide that “wow” factor that many of our clients want us to achieve.
Fabric trim has made a major comeback in recent years. Adding trim to drapery can provide that impact, if added with intention.
In the very colorful Dining Room of our #ProjectAmherstAve, we needed to add drapery that was equally as dramatic as the wallcovering, but we did not want it to compete with it. Pulling a deeper tone of the purple and adding platinum braided trim with tassels, gave us the drama we demanded, but did not outshine the walls. The hint of platinum in the trim was the finishing touch to such a regal room and served as a transition from the dark purple of the fabric to the bright light shining through the windows.
Trim on Drapery also creates flow in a space. Weaving the accent color through a room, typically, we aim for three repeats, creating harmony and intention. In this Boy’s nursery, we chose a happy cherry red as the accent color. The vintage superhero comic book art draws the eye into the room. The red toy car adds another touch of the accent color, as well. Eyes on the drapery, we chose a large whimsical tape with a fun play on the traditional Greek key pattern.
We love a solid drapery panel, it can bring understated beauty to a room. When we want something pretty, we add a more feminine touch. In this College-age Girl’s Room, which doubles as a Guest Room while she’s away at school, she wanted all things pink but not juvenile. Pulling from a sophisticated pastel color palette, we added an embroidered tape with a braid pattern to the blackout drapery panels in the bedroom, and repeated the colors on the metallic butterfly trim in the en-suite bath. Pretty in Pink but not “little-girly” makes for a beautiful space for this young lady.
A plain Roman shade can serve a function and can finish a window in a room with a dark color palette. If a room is bold, why not add a little excitement to the shade? The Powder Bath in our #ProjectOnTargetArcher is a rich smoky blue with gold piping. We repeated the gold in the Roman Shade with square rivets, outlining the shade, which tied the entire space together.
Does your simple drapery need a little excitement? Adding the right trim can change the feeling of any space- give us a call to add a touch of drama, fun, cohesion and beauty to your home. It’s what we love to do!
