In the spirit of the month of March, let’s talk about decorating with green. Green never goes out of style. While different shades may come and go, green fills the spirit with a sense of newness and the world starts to warm up and welcome Spring. Why not have that fresh feeling in your home year round? Here are some of the ways we like to use the color green in our projects:
No matter the hue, going bold with color saturation certainly makes an impact in a home. These two home office designs could not be any different, but the common denominator is we saturated the spaces with a shade of green. Color saturation means it’s not just the walls that receive a dramatic coat of color- interior doors, ceilings, moldings, and built-ins make a tedious room feel special. With Sherwin-Williams Halcyon Green, the front room of our #Project Amherst home doubles as a home office and salon. Saturating the walls and builtins gave new life to our client’s fabric window treatments which we designed her Formal Living Room around in her former residence.
Sherwin Williams Jasper saturates the walls of this gentleman’s office. Pulling from the artwork, we covered the “builder-beige” walls with this dark green, almost black color. The light wood of the office furniture feels fresh and new. Tobacco velvet on the lounge chairs provides a soft contrast to the richness of the walls. We went with a high gloss finish on the ceiling to provide a little more reflective value to the dark space. The “mandelier” warms the room with a ring of walnut and LED accents.
With a fun olive background, this “gallery wall” wallpaper turned an attic “man-cave” into a showstopper favorite room in the house. We color-matched the background to paint the ceiling the same color, giving it more of a seamless look. Navy behind the television and chestnut leather furnishings highlight the fun “art” collection of the wallpaper.
A pop of green in a bathroom is always a good idea. Pulling from the leaves in the floral wallpaper, the green vanity makes the pink and rose tones in the flowers pop and tone down the very feminine feel of the Powder Bath.
Fabrics
Green fabric is always a good idea. In this girls room, we wanted the colors to grow with our client’s four-year-old daughter, a self-proclaimed lover of pink. In the even that she was not such a dedicated fan of the color as she grew, we chose a crisp green velvet for the headboards in her bedroom and added a special touch of bubble gum with the piping. “Girly” enough for now and in the future.
Teal green or teal blue? We’ll just call it Teal. These Alice in Wonderland” eclectic wing back chairs create a whimsical seating arrangement in this not-so-formal living room. The chairs provide a soft pop of color against the neutral beach feeling accents in this gathering space.
Green. Whether with paint, wallpaper, or fabrics, always makes a statement in design. With literally thousands of variations in tone and hue, adding a “spot o’ green” in your home feels fresh and new. Let us help you find the perfect shade of green for your next project, and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!
