Interior design isn’t just about looks—it’s about how your home works for you. In this Frisco renovation story, we helped a family of six transform their house into a forever home that fits their lifestyle, personality, and daily routines. From outdoor entertaining spaces to performance fabric sofas and a dream-worthy primary suite, see how thoughtful design changed their everyday life.
Flashback, about 3 years ago. We received a call from a nice mother and father of four, who heard about a project we completed in their neighborhood. They just wanted a few things, new exterior paint color, new kitchen chairs, plus a sofa that was comfy and not full of down- the Missus was allergic! Once we had a brief conversation over a Zoom call, we knew that this family would be so much fun.
At our first site visit, we really hit it off and the project turned into a whole home makeover after we asked about their lifestyle. Now, every designer loves it when clients say “while we’re at it”, but this was something else! They realized that with some changes, this house could be their forever home. So we started in phases.
The original exterior looked a bit tired. The front porch was empty and never used, and the back patio felt crowded. With a new color palette and a front porch layout that welcomed guests as well as that after work cocktail, the home was beginning to take shape. Mom and Dad spent more time out front waiting for the kids coming home from school, and socializing more with the neighbors as they strolled by. Familiar faces suddenly became friends, and the kids (ages 8-15) began to look forward to family gatherings on the front porch.
The back patio felt crowded but did not have enough space when friends came to visit. They loved their turquoise furniture, so we added more seating and fun pillows that tied the project together. Now pool parties are bigger and better than ever so this family home was the place to be for the whole neighborhood.
Just a new sofa and chairs turned into a major renovation. We started with a huge sectional where the family could gather for movie night, and made sure when a favorite uncle (former NFL player) came to visit, he could sit comfortably- learn how a home can cause pain HERE. We added performance fabric so kids could be kids, and every spill could be cleaned up. This made a huge difference in how the Living Room was used; what was once a scattering of pieces, now was the focal point and space for connection.
The main Laundry Room was dull and felt tedious- we knew that this family, with so much personality, needed a funky place for household chores. Mom’s favorite color, sunflower yellow, was a sweet surprise on the ceiling. Adding a kennel for the pups created more workspace and custom cabinets took storage to the ceiling.
Dad’s office needed a Designer’s touch since working from home was routine a few days a week. Bold color and graphic art was in store. Now Dad has a gorgeous backdrop for those Zoom calls, whether he’s wearing pants or not!
The Dining Room really wasn’t working as a Dining Room. Creating a Cocktail Room, with a revamped Wet Bar (with new refrigeration and storage) and new seating for friends, did. This space transformed to a great place for “adults only” conversation, from a former Dining Room that was never used.
Now that the parents had their space, what about the kids? The former Playroom was converted to a Game Room, with retro arcade pieces and fun seating for video games. The Upstairs Kitchen sits nearby and now the kids and their friends have an age appropriate hang out that’s still at home, all with the convenience of kid-friendly seating and finishes.
The Media Room was completely reinvented with new stadium layered motion seating, deep plum walls and favorite curated art from their native Louisiana. New bedrooms and baths were refreshed for the kids, with individual interests and needs taken into account for each child.
Next, we completely gutted the Primary Bath and Closet. When our clients decided this was their forever home, we gave them the Primary Retreat of their dreams. A few touches in the bedroom led to a brand new bath where we featured a treasured painting above the sleek black soaking tub, and a luxurious Hollywood-worthy closet full of custom cabinetry that doubled their storage and featured a closet in the closet, for those necessary but not pretty items.
Big and small changes to a home can change your life. From having a place to host parties, or snuggle with the kids altogether (when they still let you) to pride of ownership- everyone wants to come over because it’s so inviting!
