When a Client Moves a Sneak Peak at Project Amherst

It’s always nice to reminisce on a wonderful project and imagine the memories our clients are making in their beautiful spaces. The first child’s night in their new nursery, Thanksgiving in that perfect Dining Room you designed, and so on. Then you get the call- “we’re moving!” Umm, what???!???

We LOVE IT when favorite clients call us to help make your beautiful selections “work” in their new home. What a fun challenge, am I right? Sometimes it’s easier said than done. But the good news is that they trust you and want you to create that special feeling again in another house.

Let’s talk about Project Amherst, formerly known as “Project Miller Avenue”. For starters, this particular client has spectacular taste and has a true love affair for all things colorful. At Miller Avenue, we were asked to work with two very “girly” floral (and gorgeous) fabrics that the client wanted worked into her home- she just didn’t know where. We used these fabrics in her Formal Dining Room (window treatments) and designed an oversized bespoke headboard with the other. Here’s how we made them work in the new house:

This was a “must have” in the new home. Thank goodness the fabric was still available! We had another set of panels made since the new Formal Living Room had two smaller windows. The new walls were saturated with a beautiful green that truly showcased the fabric and gave her existing furniture a new life. We added a more vintage style rug to complete the space.

The headboard is definitely the star in the Primary Bedroom. In our original design, the bedroom was covered in subtle neutral grass cloth and the adjacent fabrics were in a soft platinum shade. We didn’t want to make the room feel to feminine for the man of the house, so we pulled the navy blue from the floral fabric (Designer’s Guild). In the new house, the bedroom is not as large, so to make it feel cozy and intentional, we pulled more navy through the room with faux silk fabric trimmed in ivory tape with soft green embroidery.

We could not be more thrilled for our client and her family in the beautiful house where new memories will be made and cherished pieces feel right at home. Although making custom items work in a new space may be challenging, that’s what keeps designers on their toes and favorite clients coming back because they trust us.
