Just because you are working with a small room and large pieces of furniture, does NOT mean you have to sacrifice beautiful design. NEVER. SACRIFICE. STYLE. amen.

6. Paint The Ceilings Darker or With a Bold Pattern.
This is one of our FAVORITES… In this technique, you are tricking the eye to look upward! Using colors or patterns on the ceiling will draw your eyes upward which gives the illusion of height in an otherwise small bedroom.
7. Use Rugs to Define The Spaces.
Area rugs will make your bedroom feel “pulled together”. They also create the illusion of more space in a small room!
8. Use Lamps to Spread Light
Utilizing lamps to spread light evenly around the room will make the space feel more expansive. Instead of relying on that harsh overhead light, add smaller lamps on your bedside tables like this cozy picture below! Can you say “mood lighting”, anyone?
9. Add Exposed Legs or Transparent Furniture
Buy acrylic furniture or furniture with exposed legs to make a space feel more open. Large chairs, sofas, benches, and beds can feel boxy – exposed legs create the illusion of extra room.
Michelle’s Bonus Tip: In a bedroom with a small desk area, try replacing your desk chair with an acrylic or lucite chair. This takes up the same amount of space but tricks the eye into feeling as if it’s not there.
10. Use Mirrors!
Our final tip: Place mirrors on dark walls that don’t get much natural light.
Mirrors are the ultimate illusion! Hanging mirrors in a small bedroom will bounce light from windows to create the illusion of more space.
