I just did a quick update to both my master bath and my kitchen. The bathroom remodel was planned, the kitchen remodel was not (but that’s another story). In both areas, I chose quartz counters. There are so many reasons why we love this material, but I have narrowed it down to 4 reasons why my team & I love quartz counters. Read on for a quick little education in quartz.

1. There are a ton of colors and finishes. First and foremost, quartz is pretty. It is a man-made “stone” and therefore, we can find it in almost any style to suit our projects. The quartz selection I used in my kitchen (above) looks like Calacatta Gold Marble. But if I had wanted a solid red countertop, I could have found that option too.
2. Quartz counters are uber easy to clean. They are non-porous and stain resistant. This includes coffee and red wine, which I have personally tested by accidentally leaving a ring overnight. Oops. Quartz is not a natural stone, so they also withstand acidic foods (i.e. lemon) without etching.

3. Not a natural stone. As mentioned above, quartz is not a natural stone. It is, in fact, made of approximately 93% quartz and 7% resin. Although this formula may vary by manufacturer. This means that the surfaces are super tough, highly resistant to scratches, dents and stains. We’ve used for countertops, backsplashes, fireplace surrounds and on shower walls. They work well hard water too.
4. Excellent alternative. Natural stone can be damaged by some cleaners and should be sealed annually. Quartz can be found to look like marble or granite. So why pay more for these luxe options AND have the maintenance required when you can get the same look for less money and less maintenance?
So there you have it. Our Top 4 reasons we love quartz. Don’t get me wrong, we’ll still recommend natural stone where it’s applicable. But we’re finding more and more of our clients are digging the look and lack of maintenance of quartz. Oh, and that it is often the less expensive option.
